Team Competes at 2022 Atlantic Coast Championship
This fall season, the Sharon sailing team qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship held in Annapolis, MD, on 11/12 & 11/13. Eleven sailors, the head coach, and a team captain's mother made the trip at their own expense. Although the team did not finish among the leaders, they had a great time and learned a lot.
Team Receives Sportsmanship Award
At the annual meeting of the New England Schools Sailing Association, the Sharon High School sailing team was awarded the Stephen B. Leslie Trophy for Sportsmanship. In its twenty-seven year history, only one other team from our league has ever won this prestigious award. The nomination was made by the vice-president of ISSA, the national Interscholastic Sailing Association, after attending the 2022 National Invitational Tournament that Sharon hosted in the spring. The last paragraph of his speech reads as follows:
"From race management, to communication, to logistics, Sharon high school had a well thought out plan that they executed flawlessly. Sportsmanship is sometimes hard to describe, but you know it when you see it. They manner in which Sharon HS ran the NIT is now the standard that others should subscribe to."
